Last night after we came home from church, we each got a blanket and something to eat and drink. Then we curled up in front of the TV and watched "How to Train Your Dragon 2." Last summer I took the GGs to see the movie at the theater. They loved it, but did not like that the father died. Sure enough, last night the movie was fun, but when Stoic died, it was very sad. Toby and Jes did like the movie, though. The movie ended about 15 minutes before midnight. So, we discussed the past year and what we wanted for the new year. When asked what the best thing of 2014 was, I answered the trip to Machu Picchu.
Looking back, 2014 was not a particularly exciting year. The trip to Peru was big excitement - trip of a lifetime type stuff. I do wish my feet had not fallen apart. My toenails are still not quite grown back - sorry, that might have been more information than you wanted. Still, the trip was great. I would love to go back and do it again - maybe with a little less hiking so that I could do other sight-seeing. The people we met were interesting. Nothing like hanging out with a bunch of 20-something year olds to liven your life. Jesse said the highlight of 2014 for her, was her graduation.
I can see that. When you have worked that hard and long for something, the finale becomes a big to-do.As for what we want for the new year, well, Jesse's house seems to be on the front burner. Being a first time homeowner, it has been complicated getting things done in her name. Although the WFISD has hired her, she still has to complete the teacher test in her teaching field, which is art. The school people don't seem to have a problem - they know that it is just a formality - that Jesse will easily pass the test. (I could easily get on my soapbox and rant about the ridiculousness of teacher tests after four years of college. If the college graduates you, they ought to damn sure know whether you are capable of performing a job. But no, some government jack-ass makes graduates take a test to prove their worth. I think we should make government officials take a test...) Anyway, the bankers don't know that these tests are just silly, and want to wait to see if Jesse will pass before loaning her money to buy a house. That pushed the closing date back. Sigh! It is all going to work out. Shay and Lindz also need a house before the end of January. We can get them settled, and then get Jesse settled.
Maybe when everyone is settled, we can plan a vacation to somewhere exciting. My resolutions are the same as usual. Lose weight, do more art, get more organized, stop procrastinating - ha! Some people think resolutions are silly since no one keeps them. But I like to keep them before me and keep working at it. Nothing wrong with keeping on. That is what I will do in 2015 - keep on keeping on. I am looking forward to my fourth grand-baby and hoping for good things in the new year.
